Just a Little Taste...

A museum with a sprinkles pool and free ice cream, sign me up! 

My friend got us tickets to the hottest museum in LA and probably Instagram too! The Museum of Ice Cream! You guys when I saw this on Instagram I knew I had to find my way to this place. It's such a cool and cute place to visit. Luckily for me, I have a friend that likes these types of things too so she got us tickets and we finally went last week. We arrived a little early so we were sent to a grassy area where we could play some family games, we went with Jenga. When our time was up and we were called to enter the museum, we lined up and went over the rules with a very enthusiastic gal. 

So what is the museum of Ice Cream? I really didn't know but I knew I had to visit because all of the pictures on Instagram were just too adorable. If you are expecting a museum that provides history or information on Ice Cream, this is not the place for you. As described on their website, this place is where flavors are mysteries, toppings are toys, and sprinkles make the world a better place.  Yes, all of that is true!! We got the chance to hug a huge gummy bear, dial up an ice cream hot line, swing in a banana room, walk through a mint garden and jump into a sprinkles pool. My favorite was probably the sprinkles pool and boy I wish I can go back!

Unfortunately, this museum is sold out in Los Angeles and San Francisco. However, if I were you I would sign up on their website and follow them on Instagram to see if they come to your city. If they do, jump on those tickets ASAP!

Museum Day

Last Sunday my husband and I had a museum day. Earlier that week we saw a news segment that was talking about a new exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The exhibit that immediately sparked my husband's interest, The High Art of Riding Low: Ranflas, Corazón E Inspiración. This new exhibit explores the world of the Low Rider and the inspiration on artist.  We made our way to the Miracle Mile in search of some Low Riders. 

Upon our arrival we were greeted by two beautiful cars but we still had to go up three floors to start the exploration. It was three levels of beautiful cars that took your breathe away.  Let me just say even if you are not a car aficionado, you should visit this museum. The museum is filled with beautiful historic cars from every possible era. It's amazing to see how far the automobile has come and how beautiful a car can be. 

Our visit ended on the first floor, at the exhibit we were initially there for. The exhibit was smaller than I expected but I really enjoyed it. The artwork on these cars is amazing, definitely worth a visit. In addition to the cars, they had artwork from artist that have been inspired by the Low Rider. At the end of our visit we left with the desire of owning classic car that we can drive around on Sundays, but we settled for a '67 Impala model car that we bought at the gift shop. 

Mundo Autentico (Authentic World)

Mundo Autentico is a shopping center in Punta Cana that consist of four museums, that give you a little taste of the Dominican Republic. At Mundo Autentico you will have the opportunity to smoke a cigar, take rum shots, sip on coffee and give into your sweet tooth with some delicious chocolate. The shopping center is not your typical shopping center, its strictly consist of these four mini museums.  

My only regret during our trip to the Dominican Republic was that we didn't have the opportunity to walk around the town, check out the local shops and  taste some local street food. Visiting Mundo Autentico was the only opportunity we had to shop. Nice place to visit for 2 hours max but I'm still hungry for some local culture. 

This wraps up my posts for the Dominican Republic, it was such a beautiful and relaxing vacation. I wasn't able to take as many pictures  as I wanted because of the humidity. The humidity was so bad it would fog up my camera lens and all I could do was take some mental pictures but I'm happy with the memories my husband and I created.   

Museum Day

I initially wrote this post to describe interesting facts about the museum, but then I thought you can find those details online if you google the museum. So I decided to write a brief recap of our experience. Saturday my mom, sister and myself decided we would escape the heat and hang out at the new Broad Museum in Downtown Los Angeles.  The admission free, but you need reservations. With no reservations we made our way to the long line of people like us that had no reservations. After standing in line for less than 10 minutes, a gal comes up to my sister and asks if we are a party of three. Turns out she had three reservation tickets and was not going to use them. Just our luck we were a party of three. We rushed our way to the line with people that had tickets and after 30 minutes of standing in line we were inside the museum.

The museum is three floors and the majority of the galleries are on the third floor. As soon as you enter  you see a 105 foot escalator that takes you up to the third floor.  Knowing nothing about art we started walking around and reading the descriptions of pieces that caught our eye. While there were plenty of pieces that were interesting and looked very intricate there were some pieces that made us wonder if these pieces were really considered art. We joked that we could probably create something nicer. As we kept walking, we came across some pieces that also made us wonder if they were appropriate for children. We were not alone with this thought, we saw some parents that seemed concerned of what their kids were seeing. With no kids in our party of three, we kept walking.

All in all I thought it was a very cool and interesting experience. I think my favorite pieces were the large installations,  some of these pieces are pictured above.  One of the coolest installations at the Broad was Ragnar Kjartansson, The Visitors. I don't want to give too much away but it's a nine screen video installation and it should not be missed. What we did miss was Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room, there was a five hour wait! It looks amazing and hopefully we can go back soon and check it out. 

If you find yourself in the Los Angeles area you should definitely check it out!

p.s If you are able to visit The Broad Museum take some time to appreciate the building itself, that alone is a piece of art!

Exploring the Super Cute World of Hello Kitty

Hello! Exploring the Super Cute World of Hello Kitty exhibit is now open at The Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibit is part of Hello Kitty's 40th Anniversary celebrations. The exhibit showcases the history and influence on pop culture of this super cute character that has melted every girl's heart. As a Hello Kitty fan, naturally I had to go and check out this exhibit.

From the moment you arrive, the cuteness begins! You are greeted by the exhibitions signature Hello Kitty Kokeshi doll. 

The exhibit starts with the history of Hello Kitty, the first product created, and continues with the many products developed through out the years. Among the many products was a Hello Kitty Robot!  

The exhibit is so cute and carefully curated to reflect Hello Kitty's super cute world, I was in Hello Kitty heaven. I took lots of pictures and wanted to share some of my favorite pieces. Flash photography is not permitted through out the exhibit so some pictures are a little dark and some were taken with my iPhone but I hope you enjoy. 

 At the end of the exhibit you are invited to post your pictures on Instagram and if you hash tag them with #hellokittyjanm you get a print of your posts. So be sure to take lots of selfies because there are plenty of photo opportunities. For more information on the exhibit click here.
